Student Series: Diversity of SW practice – so many open doors!

The Student Series: Social Workers in Practice provides opportunity for students to hear from professional social workers about their work and build connections within the profession. There are 8 events planned for 2019, between March and November.

Our September speaker will be Anita Willey, who will present by webinar.

Anita is a social worker who lives and works in the Central West region of NSW and represents a regional voice on the AASW NSW Branch Management Committee. Anita has worked with people from vulnerable backgrounds including homeless youth and adults in Canberra, children at significant risk of harm in Tasmania, and asylum seekers on Nauru. Anita worked as a refugee assessor in Sydney and was employed by Population Health to assist the Tasmanian Government in responding to the health needs of settled refugees. After completing maternity leave and choosing Bathurst as her home 11 years ago, Anita has worked in various mental health settings and is now the team leader of specialist mental health services in the regional town of Bathurst. She presents at conferences on topics including trauma, suicide and self-harm, and voice hearing and has been invited to speak to many local services about mental health and wellbeing. Anita is committed to continued professional development and is dedicated to the social work profession.
