Having any dietary requirement can be a challenge, but for those with coeliac disease, finding gluten free food that is coeliac friendly can be incredibly difficult. Lucky for us here in Sydney, we are spoiled for choice with gluten free finds that are coeliac safe, with some even being accredited by Coeliac Australia. From French pastries to classic Australian bakery food, our coeliac friendly guide has you covered. 

Shire Gluten Free – Mosman & Cronulla 

Shire Gluten Free is your one stop shop for everything gluten free! From fresh and frozen items to savouries and sweets, Cori at Shire Gluten Free has you covered. 

The one stop gluten free shop was born as owner Cori and his family were ‘frustrated with the lack of variety and flavour in gluten-free products’ they had ‘a mission to create a haven where delicious and gluten-free coexist without the need to read labels.’ Their kitchen is free from gluten, and they also have a range of dairy-free and vegan options. 

Located in both Mosman and Cronulla, Shire Gluten Free has a range of ‘grab & go’ options and even offers flat rate delivery across Sydney and the Greater Sydney region and has delivery options for the rest of New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and Canberra. If you can’t get to Mosman or Cronulla, they often hold pop-up stores in Penrith, Wollongong, Maroubra Beach Markets and Castle Hill so keep an eye out on their socials! 

The owner, Cori, recommends these timeless favourites: 

  • Toasted sliders and baguettes that are filled with in house goodies like schnitzel, slow cooked beef brisket, provolone, pastrami and mozzarella cheese that melts to perfection plus many more amazing filling options! 
  • House made butter chicken and rice – delicious! 
  • Gluten free, dairy free, soy free, egg free and yeast free sourdough – yum! 
  • Hot pies and sausage rolls – these can also be purchased frozen – a coeliac’s dream! 
  • Delicious variety of cakes and sweets.

Gluten Free Pasta di Casa – Mosman 

Established in 2019, Gluten Free Pasta di Casa is owned and operated by power couple Anthony and Steph Dionne. Anthony is a chef who lives with coeliac disease. The husband-and-wife team state that ‘the creation of the business was a personal mission for us.’  

Gluten Free Pasta di Casa creates ready-made meals for customers to have delivered or picked up from the Mosman store on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  

The Dionne’s are all about making mealtimes simpler. ‘Ready-made products take the stress out of weekday cooking, as our busy customers, many with young families, can just pop in the oven and have dinner on the table quickly and without fuss.’ 

Gluten Free Pasta di Casa also host monthly dine in and takeaway events: ‘Our community can try our mouth-watering hot food menu that includes fresh pastas, fish & chips, calamari rings, arancini, chicken schnitzel, desserts, and so much more! Restaurant 317 – Parramatta 

As the first restaurant in New South Wales to be accredited by Coeliac Australia, Restaurant 317 offers a menu that is 92% gluten-free, with dishes prepared in a separate section of the kitchen to prevent cross-contamination. The staff undergo rigorous training to ensure the safety and satisfaction of all guests. Restaurant 317, located at 317 Church Street in Parramatta, is a distinguished dining establishment specialising in contemporary Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. Established in 2005 by founder Pierre Sande, the restaurant was inspired by his struggle to find suitable dining options in Sydney due to coeliac disease.  

The menu features a variety of options, including gluten-free hot pots like their famous garlic prawn and chilli prawn dishes, as well as homemade gluten-free pasta selections such as gnocchi aurora and pappardelle boscaiola. Additionally, the restaurant caters to various dietary preferences by offering vegetarian and vegan options. 

Operating daily from 11:30 am, Restaurant 317 continues to be a cornerstone of Parramatta’s dining scene, and a haven for those with coeliac disease or who choose to follow a gluten free diet. 

Penrith Pies and Pastries – Penrith (Jamisontown)  

Penrith Pies and Pastries, located in Jamisontown, Penrith, is renowned for its extensive selection of gluten-free baked goods. The bakery offers a wide range of gluten-free options, including award-winning pies, pastries, cakes, and cookies. Penrith Pies and Pastries ensures that there is something for everyone, because there is nothing worse than having to miss out on baked goods as they are full of gluten! 

Customers have praised the quality and variety of gluten-free products available at Penrith Pies and Pastries, noting the great taste of their meat pies and the good range of gluten-free pastries and snacks.

Sebastien Sans Gluten – Leichhardt 

An Authentic French patisserie in the heart of Leichhardt, Sebastien Sans Gluten is one to visit! Boasting a large variety of French pastries, savoury options and fresh breads, you can be sure you won’t be leaving the bakery empty handed! 

With a completely gluten-free kitchen and having been endorsed by Coeliac Australia, you know you can indulge without the risk of getting sick.  

Owned and operated by Sebastien, a pastry chef who trained in Paris. Sebastien has spent years perfecting his craft, bringing delicate French pastries to the gluten free world. 

The lemon tarts and ham and cheese croissants are delicious, and everything is well priced! You can dine in with a cup of barista made coffee or take your treats home.
