Student Representative Candidate Statement: Francesca Mcloughlin

by | Oct 15, 2026 | Campus News

I am pleased to be standing as an independent candidate for SRC Vice-President in the Western Sydney University Student Union elections.

As a law student, Indigenous student and student community leader, I understand the importance of representation that recognises the different experiences, responsibilities and barriers within our student community. Through supporting other students and developing student networks, I have seen the value of accessible information, clear communication and collective advocacy.

I am running to strengthen the connection between students and their representatives and to help ensure that student concerns inform decisions affecting their university experience.

My priorities are:

  • Fair academic processes and clear, timely communication.
  • Accessible support for student wellbeing.
  • Guidance for students navigating academic processes and complaints.
  • Meaningful Indigenous inclusion and representation.
  • Greater transparency, understanding and accountability in university processes for students and teaching staff alike.
  • Stronger advocacy for mature-age and disabled students.
  • Equality, inclusion and representation for minority students.
  • Better onboarding and continuing support for first-year and returning students.
  • Stronger engagement across campuses, courses and study modes.

I am proud to be part of the Western Sydney University community and value the work of its students and staff. I want to help students engage confidently with university processes while encouraging constructive, respectful communication between students, teaching staff and their representatives.

If elected, I will listen carefully, advocate constructively and communicate clearly with students about the issues being raised and the progress being made.

Voting opens on 14 October 2026 and closes at 4 pm on 21 October 2026. Eligible students will receive a personalised voting link through their university email.

I would welcome your support.
