Passionate for environmental sustainability, students from the Sustainable Development Solutions Network of WSU have been successful with their application to participate in a world-wide semester-long leadership development program.
The program run by the United Nations Academic Impact and Millennium Campus Network (MCN) consisted of 285 campus applications across 57 nations. Taking part in this program is a wonderful achievement for the university, being a part of the 30 campuses (11 per cent) of universities that applied.
From August through to November, WSU ‘Millennium Fellows’ are a part of the 528 students set to face innovative projects that will develop, challenge and enhance their teamwork and leadership skills, going forth as being representative student leaders for the university.
The Western Sydney University’s project strategy called P.E.A.C.E (Promotion, Education, Awareness, Campaigns and Empowerment), has been proposed to be one of the leading projects the students will explore. The project will shine light on changing the status quo within the university surrounding social and political issues, as well as disrupting unsustainable practices within the university and community.
Through the program, the students will be making a positive contribution to the United Nation’s goals, whilst also are committing their time to training in deepening their social impact as university students.
Getting on board with the Millennium Fellowship program with MCN’s help allows Western Sydney University to build a framework for mobilizing available resources and engaging with diverse groups, campus director Danielle Wolf says.
