Update on Parramatta Student Campus Council

by | Apr 4, 2018 | Campus News

The Parramatta Student Campus Council (SCC) is a diverse group of actively engaged students who study at Parramatta South or City campus. We are all about making your experience here the best it can be. We want to hear what you love, like or loathe about Parramatta and we have the ability to present your voice to the wider university community, to make positive change happen.

This semester has already been jam-packed with eventsconferences and consultation sessions, with plenty more to come. Orientation week was a fantastic opportunity for meeting many of you who are new to Western Sydney U. The ‘Back to Uni Party’ at Collector Hotel, Parramatta, was so much fun, with a great turnout of students on the dance floor. We are looking forward to the #WesternWednesday Parties, held on the first Wednesday night of every month at Collector. We will also be co-hosting a Hip-Hop Party at Uncle Kurt’s Bar, Parramatta, on #WesternWednesday May 9th, with free entry and discounts on food and rinks for students.

Other big upcoming events include the Harmony Walk around Parramatta on Saturday April 7thconcluding with a festival atmosphere at Parramatta South campus. Tuesday April 17 will be ‘Earth Day’with many events and initiatives on environmental sustainability. Tuesday May 8th is M8 Day, a day of fun and festivities centred on cooperation, respect and mateship.

Recently, several of us attended the CayalystWest Forum – a day of innovation about the future of a Western Sydney. I also attended the Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue ‘Future Forum’ onplanning and governance. We believe and wish to encouragement engagement in political dialogues concerning Western Sydney and a collaborative relationship with our local government.

During Western Fair, we have been coordinating The Amazing Selfie Challenge, with huge prizes on offer for those who take selfies at a list of spots around each campus. Western Fair has been incredible in bringing our campuses to life, with music, entertainment, free food and stalls from all your student clubs.

Speaking of student clubs, we in the Parramatta SCC are involved in a range of student clubs and encourage you to get involved too! From clubs about entrepreneurship to skateboarding, to politics to cultural groups, there are many exciting clubs to join. Or, if there is something else you’re passionate about, you probably can start a club about that too!

Thanks to our Campus Life Assistants, Chris and Nap, there are lots of other great initiatives takingplace at Parramatta. On both campuses, between Tuesday-Thursday help yourself to a free breakfast in The Hub (Parra South) or on Level 1 (City). The pool tables and chill out zones in The Hub are also available until 8pm every weeknight. There’s also been a free screening for students of Red Sparrow at Events Cinemas and one for The Avengers on April 14th.

Follow ‘Parramatta Student Campus Council’ on Facebook to keep up with all of our events andintiatives and to find out how you can get involved too!
