The Atrophy of Her

by | Mar 17, 2022 | Poetry

Kicked in the head and thrown into a beast

Shaped like a staircase I’d almost forgotten

Peering through railing below, I’m caught

Inevitable

Back to bed, spring sticking into thigh

Read a book to keep it from the mind

Bittersweet heroics to ponder in dark

To sleep, I drift to imagery of these beautiful beings

To forget the ambience of adolescence

Muffled sobs and late-night cartoons
