On February 21 approximately 530 dedicated community, government and business representatives filled the ANZ Stadium’s Millennium Room to attend the 7th annual Zest Awards ceremony. The Zest Awards is a celebration of Western Sydney’s achievements through highlighting our assets, diversity, creativity and innovation. This event celebrated the accomplishments of local initiatives and focused on how grass-roots projects are the key to community resilience.
The highlight of the event for students is the exclusive Western Sydney University category which commemorates the efforts of humble, silent achievers from within our university. This is attributed to Western Sydney U being a primary partner of the event and our chancellor, Peter Shergold, being a Zest Ambassador. Chosen from 6 nominees, Bou Ovington received this year’s ‘Western Sydney University Unsung Heroes Award.’ Bou was recognised for being an outstanding mentor to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and an active member of his local community. Bou has dedicated countless hours towards engaging high school students, participating in research projects and leading activities beyond the classroom.
Western Sydney University students made up a further 5 nominees; Anne Dwyer, Claire Wind, Matthew Richardson, Narendar Manohar and Rhys Tague.
